Happy 80th Birthday!
A star is born...
Green Line Coaches Limited was registered by the London General Omnibus Company on 9 July 1930 and this year sees the 80th birthday of this now iconic brand.
Committed to customer service
But this is no time for slowing down and perhaps taking things a little easier, as this sprightly octagenarian is as up-to-the-minute and committed to customer service now as it ever was.
Nevertheless a little nostalgia is fine and celebrations have already begun with a major enthusiast event at Wisley in Surrey on Sunday 11 April 2010. The 37th annual Cobham bus and coach spring gathering is organised by the London Bus Preservation Trust, and this year took place at Wisley. Green Line's 80th birthday provided a theme for the event and there were displays both at the event in Wisley and at Cobham bus museum.
A number of Green Line vehicles, past and present, were on display and a souvenir brochure was on sale. Green Line and Arriva sponsored an award for the best Green Line coach in the show. See below for details of the worthy winner.
A further major and unique event will be staged on Saturday 17 July 2010. Special services will operate from London to Guildford, the route of the very first Green Line service and a road run of heritage vehicles will be staged. A very special commemorative programme will be available, written by Laurie Akehurst, an acknowledged expert on Green Line. For more details of this please see the London Bus Preservation Trust's website.
