Its long history still survives though, in the rural parishes that surround ´The High´, its modern centre. ´The Lawn´ is the first tower block built in Britain in 1951, now listed for preservation.

More than one third of Harlow is made up of parks, woodland, ponds and open spaces. Harlow has over 250 acres of nature reserves and parks. For garden enthusiasts, Harlow has a variety of places to visit.

Markets take place on Monday (bric-a-brac), Tuesday and Thursday to Saturday.

The Playhouse Theatre in Harlow has a 420-seater auditorium. Shows include national touring comedy, dram, music, dance and children's performances.

The Museum of Harlow tells the story of Harlow through objects, pictures, text and interactive exhibits. Collections include local archaeology and history, a local history library/archive and historic bicycles.
