Pontefract Castle has a long and important history, becoming a royal castle in 1399 and being part of the English Civil War in the 17th century. Today it is a fascinating insight into this history, with lots to see including an on-site blacksmith.

Pontefract Liquorice Festival is now in its sixteenth year, and represents a great day out for all the family as the town celebrates the many uses of this unusual plant, along with the town's historic associations with it.

Pontefract Museum was previously a Carnegie free library. The small, compact museum is situated in the town centre next to the library and is packed full of life, history and artefacts from the town's earliest beginnings to the present day.
